To the world, you may only be one person, but to one person you may be the world. – Anonymous It’s a brand new day and you have a choice to make. You can easily get out of bed and start your morning routine in the same way that you start every other day. Or, you can determine in your heart to make this day different from every other day that you’ve ever lived. Please note that you can’t do both. Only one path is possible. If you are up to it, you can choose to change the world by 5pm. Impossible, you say? I would challenge that it’s not only possible, but also absolutely attainable! Make a Difference! You have the choice to make a difference in someone’s life. Please first understand that yesterday is gone and tomorrow will worry about itself. All that stands before you is today. Twenty-four short hours. Here is the challenge: Don’t let today be just another ordinary day. That may sound easy at first, but I want you to really think about this: How often during your day are you preoccupied with things that are on your mind, issues that you are dealing with, or tasks that MUST be accomplished? To take it one step further, how much of your time is spent considering the needs of other people in your life or even ordinary people that you pass by on the way to accomplishing your next task ? If you are like many people, the first thought that may come to mind is, “How can I think of what others need when I’m constantly trying to hold it together myself?!” Yet, statistics show that the majority of people, when asked, will agree that they have a deep desire to make a difference in this world and in the lives of others. So, somewhere in between the whirlwind of life and the deepest cry of people’s hearts, there is a deep conflict. Fortunately, I believe there is a extremely real-world solution that every single one of us can implement without excluding even one task from our schedule. As you go throughout your day today, fight away everything that clouds your vision and passion to make a difference in this world. Again, the statistics will agree that most people want to make an impact in the lives of others and, in doing so, we will live more joyful and fulfilled lives ourselves. Yet, we all have “distractions” in life. From stress, to work, to family, to finances…these are all things that keep the focus on ourselves as we go from place to place. These are the everyday and necessary things, whether good or bad, that constantly pull us in every direction. However, even in the places that we visit on a daily basis, there are likely dozens of people that we cross paths with who may be hurting, need a friend, or just want someone to come alongside of them. Do you ever notice how many people you actually pass in one day without ever actually LOOKING at them? It’s almost a mind-numbing blur, isn’t it? At the end of the day, have you ever looked back and thought, “What did I actually do today?” Today is the day that you can change that . The truth is that we can only control so much. What You Can Do Today So, do yourself (and the world) a favor today…look people in the eye as you pass them…and then smile . Something as simple as that could change someone’s entire day . At the gas station, the grocery store, the bank, work, the gym, wherever…STOP, SLOW DOWN, and say ”hello”, ”thank you”, “I appreciate you”, “I love you”, “Is there anything I can do for you today?”…or whatever else comes to mind. We don’t need coaching on this one! We all just simply need to look at that person and say to them all of the things that we want to hear on a daily basis from other people, but never get to hear because of the constant “busy-ness” of life. I bet, starting at 6am, we can change the world by the end of the day. If not the entire world….SOMEONE’S. I pray that God uniquely uses you in the lives of the people that He has surrounded you with today. I dare you to step out of your comfort zone! Have an amazing day. Oh, and as far as tomorrow is concerned…see above. How are you going to change the world by 5pm today? Meet me in the comments and share your idea.
