Movie: Total Recall

In mid-December I recorded Total Recall on TBS (yes, an edited for TV version).  I wanted to watch it because I saw something on Philip K. Dick and then I realized that I had watched and liked some of his other books that someone else converted into movies.  I thought the idea of the movie was interesting a man thinks his life is mundane and would like to do something memorable, but doesn’t have the time or resources to do it personally.  So he buys a memory implant, but he wakes up (or so we think) early into the process and believes he is a secret agent (for real or not?) and gets to Mars to continue his secret agent work since he had his memory erased/blocked.  I’m still undecided if he is dreaming or living at the end of the movie…I should probably read the book!  The downside to this movie for me was the over the top cheesy feel of the set and acting.  I’m definitely keeping an eye out for this one in a non-TV version, I also think this movie would be a good candidate for a re-make so much has changed since the set of this movie was made. Deep Thought: What type of memory would you want implanted?  Why don’t you think you could do it? Likes: The young Sharon Stone, The cabbie, aliens on Mars, mining another planet for resources (seems to be a popular plot), CRTs in a car Dislikes: Edited for TV versions of movies, apparently I missed the three breasted woman, and probably some cursing, commercials during a movie (it makes it hard to keep focused on the plot and character understanding, can’t they hold them until the end?) I like the movie because of the plot, not for its super cheese (maybe it would have been better if I watched it in 1990), I’m giving it a 7/10.
