Last week we watched Unstoppable , the newer one about trains ( not the older one ). It was a pretty intense movie, but full of what the… and why don’t they…, man they should have…. from my wife and I. I know for me the intensity was purely about the physics of the situation, something this big and this long with this kind of cargo was doomed from the start of the movie. I was cringing when the dude left the cab, let alone fatty trying to run to beat the engine to the switch. The only part of the plot that took me a while was between the train driver and the conductor. I started out thinking this was a “cargo heist” movie, then I slowly realized that the plot was solely about the runaway train. I don’t understand why they didn’t use multiple engines before and after the runaway train in the first attempt, but that’s why its a movie. Deep Thought: If you had a thought and a chance to save lives with that idea, would you be able to execute it? Likes: Movie about a train (I can’t think of another train “operations” style movie…maybe The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 ), Denzel Washington (he is so diverse and very immersed into his characters) (I last saw him in The Book of Eli ) Dislikes: Secondary plots that go no where (Conductor’s wife/son and restraining order…blah), Corporate jerks with alternative views (company value overrides moral issues…since when?) I liked the intensity, I’m giving it a 8/10.
